It’s been over 60 years since Walt Disney first brought families together in a whole new way.  As a lifelong Walt Disney World fan, I have been waiting for the day I could travel to see Walt’s first park.  Having now walked where Walt walked, I have a better understanding of where the magic began.  Disneyland is smaller than its Magic Kingdom counterpart, but the beauty of this place is in the details.  Everywhere you look you can see the handcrafted work of the first Imagineers.  As you move over to Disney California Adventure you get to experience a new generation of theme park thrills. These two parks combine to showcase the past, present, and future of Disney theme park fun.  Of course, you won’t find everything here that you will in the 4 parks at Walt Disney World.  However, I found there was enough of the familiar to make me feel at home, and enough new to have me already planning a return trip. I want to begin today by putting the history of the two California theme parks in perspective.  That means...
Ride Refurbishment Fall 2016

Ride Refurbishment Fall 2016

http://traffic.libsyn.com/wdwrideguide/WDW_Ride_Guide_82-_Ride_Refurbishment_Fall_2016.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | Download (7.2MB) | EmbedWith Fall around the corner you are closer and closer to your Disney trip this October, November, or December.  There is a lot going on at Walt Disney World these days and I want to make sure you are prepared. With the peak season of summer behind us, the time to refurbish some rides has come.  When a park stays open 365 days a year, you have to bite the bullet and close down some rides for maintenance during operating hours.  Sadly, that means some of us might miss out on particular rides during fall trips. Here’s the good news: there are plenty of other rides to pick up the slack.  Of course, nothing is more disappointing than being excited about a particular ride, only to discover it is closed when you arrive.  We don’t want any Clark Griswold incidents when you make it to Walt Disney World this fall.  So, let’s set those expectations before you ever leave the house by looking at the Ride Refurbishment schedule for fall 2016. Swiss Family Treehouse 7/6/16 – 9/25/16 Did you know this walkthrough attraction has been entertaining guests since opening day, October 1, 1971?  Since then very little has changed.  That is thanks to the artificial nature of the Robinson families home.  Despite looking very real, the 300,000 leaves and the tree itself are pure Disney Imagineering. So, what is going on now that requires such a lengthy refurbishment?  Is the tree being re-themed to Tarzan like its Disneyland counterpart?  Well, probably not.  While nothing official has been released, there is a...
Alice Through the Looking Glass Exclusive Preview!

Alice Through the Looking Glass Exclusive Preview!

Beginning tomorrow, May 6th, you can watch an exclusive extended preview of Disney’s upcoming film Alice Through the Looking Glass!  The 10-minute preview will be playing inside Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Before we get to the film preview let’s talk about the building that houses the sneak peak.  Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream is an often overlooked attraction, but one worthy of your time. You will find Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream right behind The Great Movie Ride, just before you reach Pixar Place.  Perhaps you missed it on your rush to get to Toy Story Mania! at rope drop!  Inside, there is a rich story chronicling the life of Walt Disney.  Think of this as a mini-museum dedicated to Walt’s life, from his early days as a boy in Marceline, Missouri, to his life changing creation of Mickey Mouse.  One of my many favorite pieces in the collection is the Audio Animatronic figure of Abraham Lincoln from the 1964-1965 World’s Fair.  Seeing inside the AA figure gives a new appreciation for the skill and creativity far ahead of it’s time. Another great thing about this exhibit is you can take your time and go at your own pace.  There is so much to see and appreciate here you don’t want to rush through too quickly on your way to see the film.  When you come to the end of the exhibit space you will find some wonderful models of Disney parks from around the globe.  Seeing these models makes me want to hop on a plane to go explore the awesome looking rides...
Fastpass+ Enhancements

Fastpass+ Enhancements

Fastpass+ is the best way to avoid long lines on your favorite rides.  Now, the system is getting some great enhancements that will make it even easier to use! Beginning April 10, 2016 Walt Disney World riders will be able to: Choose individual FastPass+ experiences and times, and will no longer need to make all selections for the same day at the same time. Book fewer than three selections, if desired.  Riders will still be able to make up to three initial selections, but this is no longer mandatory. Modify Fastpass+ selections in the My Disney Experience mobile app, including changing party members. Make an additional FastPass+ selection via the My Disney Experience mobile app, in addition to in-park kiosks.  After the initial 3 selections have been used, you will be able to make a 4th through the app, use this Fastpass+, and continue to make additional selections after each is used. All of these great enhancements will continue to be included at no extra charge with theme park admission.  Guests staying on property will continue to be able to make selections 60 days in advance.  Visitors staying off-site will be able to make their selections 30 days in advance....
NEW Fastpass+ Unlimited!

NEW Fastpass+ Unlimited!

New seasonal ticket pricing, extra ticketed events, and big changes to the parks have been all the talk the past couple of weeks.  Today, we are going to review the latest stories, and talk about the biggest bombshell out today, the addition of Fastpass+ Unlimited. First, we learned about a change to the pricing in tickets at Walt Disney World.  Here is the reasoning and explanation behind the change according to the Disney Parks Blog: As you may have read in the news, the demand for Disney Parks continues to grow, particularly during peak periods. At the same time, we have an unwavering commitment to exceeding the expectations of all our guests. That is why we continue to expand our parks with new attractions like those noted above, as well as entire new themed lands based on AVATAR, Star Wars and “Toy Story.” It is also why we continue to look for ways to help spread out visitation. So, beginning tomorrow, we are shifting to seasonal pricing for 1-Day tickets. It’s an approach that you are probably familiar with from many other areas, including sports, entertainment and travel. These pricing changes went into effect Feb. 28th.  Many Disney fans were less than pleased with this news, but as the quote above says, attendance continues to grow and Disney is looking for ways to spread these large crowds around.  It will probably help Disney’s case that Universal announced this week they too are increasing ticket prices. In addition to the regular ticket price change, Disney also announced a new ticketed event called, “Disney After Hours.”  According to Disney’s website: By purchasing a ticket...
